Biography

State Sen. Ron Alting represents Senate District 22, which is composed of a large portion of Tippecanoe County. First elected to the Senate in 1988, Alting serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Policy and is a member of the Senate Committees on Civil Law and Elections.

A graduate of Purdue University, Alting serves on the Veteran’s Home Advisory Committee, the Indiana Tourism Council and the Commission on Disproportionality of Youth Services. Prior to his election to the Senate Alting served as President of the Lafayette City Council. He is a member of the First Free Methodist Church Board of Trustees, the Indiana University School of Medicine – Lafayette Community Advisory Board, and is a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 11. He has also served on the boards of Meals on Wheels, Bright National Bank, Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and the Purdue University Liberal Arts Alumni Association board.

He has received numerous recognitions and awards including the American Legion Distinguished Public Service Award in 2012, 2005 and 2002; The Champion of Friendship Award presented by Anthony Kennedy Shriver on behalf of Best Buddies of Indiana in 2012, and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Champion of Small Business Award in 2005.

Alting was a member of the 1974 Jefferson High School basketball team that played in the state finals and he is a Major in the Indiana Guard Reserve. He and his wife Pam live in Lafayette with their two children, Ronnie Jr. and Ashley.
